Fear not, Southerners! Sugarcane syrup is a darn good replacement.
In this video I demonstrate how you can make your own organic cane syrup from homegrown sugar cane - and you don't need a sugarcane press! It's a bit time-consuming but the end result is delicious. Even without pressing sugarcane, the flavor is very good. I've been growing sugarcane for years and just can't afford a cane press... so I had to find another way to make syrup.
If you have some sugar cane, a stockpot, a good way to cut up the cane, plus an afternoon to watch it boil, you're set!
